چکیده
Nepal is having a series of enteric fever epidemics over the last decade1,2 with changing resistance patterns.3 The fi rst report of multidrug resistant Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi in Nepal was published in 1991.4 In the following years, with the introduction of fl uoroquinolones in the treatment, nalidixic acid-resistant strains associated with reduced susceptibility to fl oroquinolones have been continuously reported from Nepal and trend of resistance is increasing.1,5 Subsequently, occasional isolation of highly fl uoroquinolone resistant and third generation cephalosporins resistant S. paratyphi A and S. typhi strains has also been reported from Nepal6,7 and other developing countries such as India and Bangladesh.

Integron-associated antibiotic resistance in Salmonella enterica serovar typhi from Asia.
Eighteen of 25 isolates of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi were multidrug resistant and contained class 1 integrons with a single cassette, dfrVII or aadA1. The dfrVII-containing integron was likely borne on an IncHI1 plasmid. Salmonella serovar Typhi could become resistant to broad-spectrum cephalosporins by integrating cassettes, such as veb-1, a common cassette in Asia.

We report the emergence in Kenya during 1997-1999 of typhoid fever due to Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi resistant to ampicillin, tetracycline, chloramphenicol, streptomycin, and cotrimoxazole. Genotyping by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis of XbaI-digested chromosomal DNA yielded a single cluster. The multidrug-resistant S. Typhi were related to earlier drug- susceptible isolates but were u...
متن کاملAnalysis of plasmid and chromosomal DNA of multidrug-resistant Salmonella enterica serovar typhi from Asia.
Molecular analysis of chromosomal DNA from 193 multidrug-resistant (MDR) Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi isolates from 1990 to 1995 from Pakistan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Bangladesh, and India produced a total of five major different pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) patterns. Even within a particular country MDR S. enterica serovar Typhi DNA was found to be in different PFGE groups. Similar ...
متن کاملOccurrence of multidrug-resistant Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis isolates from poultry in Iran
Salmonella enterica is recognized as one of the major food-borne pathogens with more than 2,500 serotypesworldwide. The present study addresses antimicrobial resistance of Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidisisolates in Iran. A collection of 151 Salmonella spp. isolates collected from poultry were serotyped toidentify Salmonella Enteritidis. Sixty-one Salmonella Enteritidis were subsequently...
متن کاملSalmonella enterica serovar typhi strains isolated in Korea containing a multidrug resistance class 1 integron.
Six strains of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi which were resistant to ampicillin, chloramphenicol, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, streptomycin, tetracycline, and gentamicin were isolated in Korea. This multidrug resistance was transferred by a conjugative plasmid of about 50 kb. The plasmid harbored a class 1 integron, which included six resistance genes, aacA4b, catB8, aadA1, dfrA1, aac(6')...
